A 1 day course which has been developed around the Ministry of Justice Guidelines “Managing the Safety of Burial Ground Memorials”and the Scottish Government’s “Burial Ground Memorial Safety Guidance for Scotland Local Authorities. (July 2019).”

This course aims to enable participants to carry out safe, consistent, and effective inspections of memorials over 1.5 metres in height within cemetery environments. It focuses on identifying instability and risk while working in line with current health and safety guidance and best practice. Participants will develop the skills required to assess memorial condition, carry out hands-on testing, and record findings accurately for individual memorials and entire burial grounds.

This course deals with:
• Carrying out risk assessments for memorial inspection work;
• Undertaking visual inspections of memorials over 1.5 metres;
• Identifying unsafe or deteriorating components of memorials;
• Carrying out and recording results of a memorial ‘push test’;
• Recording inspection data consistently across cemeteries.

This workshop provides the underpinning knowledge and practical assessment required for the Qualifications Scotland in Memorial Inspection. The qualification can be completed on the same day as the course.

Course Suitability
This practical course is aimed at those who work for local authorities, burial authorities, or organisations responsible for the management and care of cemeteries. It is also suitable for individuals looking to begin a career in cemetery or memorial management, or those wishing to formalise their experience with a recognised qualification.

No prior qualifications are required, though an interest in health and safety and working in cemetery environments is beneficial.

We are always happy to help learners choose the right course. Please contact us if you would like to discuss whether this course is suitable for you or your employees.
