This is a comprehensive three day course which covers, personal safety, equipment safety, manual handling, the construction of memorials, dismantling and re-fixing of memorials.

The course features both theory and practical guidance. The use of a lifting gantry is included along with manual handling. The course also includes the attainment of the QS HA1J-04 Fix and Secure memorial masonry award. All tools and equipment are provided.

The workshop aims to enable participants to safely and competently dismantle, repair, and re-fix burial ground memorials over 1.5 metres in height, in line with current health and safety guidance and recognised industry standards. It provides participants with the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required to work confidently with memorial masonry, from assessment through to secure re-fixing.

This course deals with:
• Risk assessment and safe systems of work;
• Personal safety and equipment safety;
• Manual handling techniques for memorial and stone masonry;
• Understanding the construction of memorials;
• Dismantling, repairing, and re-fixing memorials, including memorials over 1.5 metres;
• Safe use of a lifting gantry.

This comprehensive three-day course combines theory-based learning with practical, hands-on training. The course includes the attainment of the Qualification Scotland (Formerly SQA) HA1J-04 Fix and Secure Memorial Masonry award, providing a recognised qualification for those working within the memorial masonry sector.

This practical course is aimed at those who work for local authorities, burial authorities, or organisations responsible for the management, care, and maintenance of cemeteries and burial grounds. It is also suitable for individuals working in stonemasonry or memorial masonry, or those wishing to formalise and strengthen their skills through a recognised qualification.

o Use of lifting gantries and associated equipment;
o Practical assessment for the HA1J-04 award.

Douglas is a fully qualified QS Trainer in all aspects of Memorial Safety Inspection as well as being a QS Assessor and Verifier.
