Understanding the materials used in the construction of historic buildings is key in identifying appropriate conservation practices. The Scottish Lime Centre Trust (SLCT) hold an invaluable archive of mortar samples from historic sites across Scotland (and further afield), and corresponding analysis reports detailing the make-up of these mortars.
Historic Scotland, in conjunction with the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, has an exciti...ng opportunity in the form of a 6 month paid internship based at the Scottish Lime Centre’s Charlestown Workshops to collate and digitise information from the SLCT historic mortars archive.
This internship provides a unique and exciting opportunity to up-skill in the area of building conservation through participation on a range of training courses provided by the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, and offers the chance to establish a sound awareness of the greater building conservation sector in Scotland.
The successful candidate will have an interest in building conservation and ideally have experience in development/modification of Microsoft Access databases. A background in a materials science related discipline would be beneficial but is not essential.

Start Date: Between 20th & 27th July 2015*
Stipend: £7,250 paid monthly over a 6 month period in arrears**

* The successful candidate will be required to provide a basic Disclosure

** The stipend is not taxable as it is a bursary for further educational study, rather than a salary. The stipend includes a sum to cover payment of Class 3 National Insurance, and it is
the Intern’s responsibility to make these payments.
