This FREE  week long training will involve all aspects of building recording. There will be an introductory talk before each activity explaining procedure and desired outcome.

Activities will include: Excavation, area cleaning, producing written description/context records, photography, elevation, section and plan drawing at various scales, and digitizing of site drawings. There will be discussions on interpretation of physical evidence, phasing of buildings etc throughout the week.On Friday afternoon there will be a concluding session discussing what has been achieved through the week and looking at what has been produced.

The Scottish Lime Centre at Penicuik House will be the base for the course. Hard hats and hi-vis jackets will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring safety boots and warm waterproof clothing.  Due to the ruin being a functioning building site, and the nature of the tasks to be undertaken a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility is required.
